What’s In and What’s Out For Home Design?

    What’s In?

    1. A reduced carbon footprint, buyers are looking for energy saving homes and ones that lessen their contribution to global warming.

    2. Outdoor living, huge fireplaces, outdoor kitchens

    3. Concealed appliances, paneled refrigerators are not enough, most appliances can be found behind or inside cabinets or closets

    4. Floating homes, ranch homes on stationary barges in a lake or a river (not so much in Colorado!)

    5. Home elevators, these are primarily for baby boomers that want to age in their home – this isn’t a bad idea, also for aging grandparents

    6. Pet showers, this feature can be part of a mud room or garage – finally Fido gets his own bathtub and I don’t have to share -

    7. Freestanding bathtubs, oversized soaker tubs rather than whirlpool tubs

    8. Bathroom suites, putting in flat screen tvs, mini fridges, cappuccino makers, there will be no need to head to the kitchen, just hang out in the bathroom all day and host parties there!

    What’s Out?

    1. Living rooms, some homes these do not exist, I always thought these were a waste!

    2. Voluminous ceiling heights, the space is wasted and a waste of energy

    3. Tiny balconies, they must function for entertaining – this makes total sense, room for more than just a chair

    4. McMansions, smaller is better and finally gaining momentum -
