Companies to Watch in the Boulder Colorado Area in 2009
With the 2009 economic environment the way it is, it’s good to stay on top of the job wave throughout the Boulder Colorado area – just in case you’re thinking about moving here. The Boulder Camera always puts together it’s picks for the year to watch that have significant presence in the Boulder and Broomfield counties or that are expected to make some waves in the coming months. Here’s the list:
- ConocoPhillips – an integrated energy company with interest all around the world, headquarter out of Houston Texas purchased 432 acres outside of Louisville from Storage Technology Corp and plan to build their new energy research facility and learning center to train employees from more than 40 countries.
- Crocs Inc. – headquartered out of Niwot just outside of Boulder City, founded in 1999 and are designers and manufacturers and retailers of footwear for men and women and children.
- DigitalGlobe Inc. - headquartered in Longmont Co, just 15 minutes from the city of Boulder an provider of high-resolution commercial satellite imagery and geospatial information products.
- Level 3 Communications Inc. - headquartered in Broomfield just 20 minutes from Boulder provide fiber-based communications services
- Pangea Organics - maker of organic body care products – the company’s sales doubled in 2007 and had an amazing 2008.
- Rally Software Development Corp. – headquartered in Broomfield, a privately held company that focuses on green energy and the production of cellulosic ethanol.
- Siemens Energy (subsidiary of Siemens AG) – headquartered in Munich Germany, a power generation company that develops and builds fossil fuel power plants and components as well as wind turbines, turbines for use as mechanical drives and compressors for industrial applications. In June of 2008 announced plans to establish a couple-thousand square foot facility where employees will focus on atmospheric science research, aerodynamic blade design, structural dynamics and wind turbine dispatch predictions and reliability. They are now located at 1050 Walnut St in Boulder. Along with ConocoPhillips this company may well position Boulder County growth in renewable energy.
- Sun Microsystems. Inc. – even though this company did a recent layoff of job cuts , look out for some kind of spin off as the company looks to improve it’s profitablity.
Even thought Boulder Colorado is small in comparison to other area of the US, look for Boulder to have a HUGE impact as far as being a leader in renewable energy, environmental sustainability, and other global issues.
