    Boulder Colorado Schools

When helping families move to Boulder Colorado, the topic of schools always arises.  What are the public schools and their location?  Are there any private or charter schools?  Is there a website that can provide the information?  unihill

As a real estate agent and a mother, I have done the research and would like to share it in hopes that it eases the difficulty of moving and finding a school.

As a general rule, I like to stress that you really can’t go wrong with a school in Boulder Colorado as they are all statistically safe with low (to zero) violence rates.  Read more about Boulder schools.

Let’s begin with the area of south Boulder considering anything south of Baseline.  Horizons K-8, Bear Creek Elementary School, Community Montessori, Creekside at Martin Park (public) are the Elementary Schools in this area.  Bear Creek (focus school in partnership with the University of Colorado) states that their school is a dynamic school that emphasizes the multifaceted cognitive and conceptual connections among mathematics, science and music. Community Montessori is a public school.  Click here to learn the Montessori philosophy

Middle schools on the south side of Boulder include Horizons K-8 in which the staff is committed to guiding students to become self directed and community contributors.  Also, the Manhattan School of Art and Academics is an academic arts focus and neighborhood school for grades 6-8 in the Boulder Valley School District. Their challenging academic program covers the Boulder Vally School District middle school curriculum plus an arts focus program.  The arts focus program, which students may chose to be a part of, is modeled after the Getty Arts curriculum.  Other middle schools in this area include Platt, Southern Hills, and Summit Middle Charter school.

South Boulder High Schools are Fairview and Peak to Peak Charter School in Lafayette.  This charter school is part of Boulder Valley School District, and is a K-12 public charter school offering a liberal arts, college preparatory curriculum. High expectations are an important part of the school culture. Peak to Peak students who demonstrate a mastery of knowledge and skills are challenged through appropriate placement in each subject area. Peak to Peak is small enough to ensure that each student is known and valued but large enough to provide a variety of academic, athletic, and extracurricular activities.

Douglass Elementary School, Eisenhower, Flatirons, High Peaks, Horizons Alternative K-8, Whittier, and University Hill are north of Baseline and Boulder central.  Boulder Community School of Intregrated Studies is a holistic, arts-integrated school in which active involvement and academic excellence provide a foundation for learning and self-expression.

Middle schools centrally located are Caseywhich is under construction and those kids are going to Platt while the building is being completely rebuilt.casey20middle20school20-20image20220web

High schools in central Boulder are New Vista which states that it has a mission “to break the mold” of conventional secondary school practice. A small, public high school of choice, serving a heterogeneous student body.  Arapahoe, Boulder High School, and Boulder Prepatory are the others.

North Boulder Elementary schools are Columbine (public), Crestview (public), Foothill (public), Shining Mountain Waldorf and Eastern Sun Academy which is a school for contemplative education that nurtures individual brilliance by inspiring students to realize and cultivate their inherent intelligence, compassion and confidence with a strong academic foundation. In North Boulder,  Centennial is the middle school.  As for high schools, if you live in North Boulder, your child can attend Boulder High, New Vista, Shining Mountain Waldorf, or Tara High School for the Performing Arts.

Whew! I know it’s a lot of information.  But like I said, they are all great schools.  Focus on whether or not you want a public school or a private school, then focus on location.  This will help you narrow down your options. Contact me to receive more information.
